In this course, 3rd and 4th year medical students at Harvard Medical School complete a 1-month elective rotation in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at BIDMC. During this rotation, students gain familiarity with common conditions impacting hospitalized term and preterm infants and develop skills in obtaining a medical history, performing newborn examinations, and formulating medical plans. Students also strengthen their communication skills through interactions with nursing staff, families, and consultants. Since 2013, two to five students have participated in this rotation each year.
