2019 MIT Summer Internship on Mobile App Development for Alicanto

Alicanto™ - A Global Learning and Collaboration Platform

Alicanto™ is a social learning platform that supports online learning communities supported by multimedia content, courses and online groups. The system can host an on-demand library of learning content, self-paced courses, e-commerce for paid only courses, group areas for document sharing and discussion areas, and video conferencing that can be used for case discussions or consultation meetings.

Alicanto is being used by Boston Children’s Hospital’s OPENPediatrics https://www.openpediatrics.org network for global education in pediatrics, by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s global MADCaP Prostate Cancer Network https://www.madcapnetwork.org, to support cancer research training in Africa, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s JWEL Center https://jwel.mit.edu/ for sharing best practices in education.

We are currently developing a mobile app that will extend the capabilities of the platform to allow offline viewing of content, and more interactive ways for the community to communicate. The mobile app is being develop in React Native for both iOS and Android.

The platform was designed and developed by Yuri Quintana, Ph.D, Director Global Health Informatics, at the Harvard Division of Clinical Informatics, at BIDMC. For more information, contact Yuri Quintana at yquintan@bidmc.harvard.edu.
