Rohan BajajDr. Rohan Bajaj earned his BS in Anatomy and Cell Biology at McGill University, where he graduated summa cum laude and was placed on the Dean’s Honor List. He studied neurogenesis and nerve repair in C. elegans and was the recipient of the Alan and Harriet Susie Tenenhouse Scholarship in Science and the Major Entrance Scholarship. During his time at McGill, Dr. Bajaj served as the President of his department’s student body and fundraised for and implemented the first 3D printer and scanner in a cadaver laboratory in North America.

Dr. Bajaj went on to earn his MD at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, where he was a Lietman Scholar and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha and Phi Beta Kappa honor societies. He served as President of the Ophthalmology Interest Group and Treasurer of Johns Hopkins Sight Savers, a community outreach program.

As a medical student, Dr. Bajaj studied the use of a thermal-vision camera with the ARGUS II retinal prosthesis in patients with retinitis pigmentosa, analyzed the practice patterns of sickle cell retinopathy, created a grading technique for Fuchs’ dystrophy using a smartphone camera, and validated the efficacy of a novel trabeculectomy closure surgical technique. He also worked on a joint project with the Australian government and Wilmer Eye Institute, which involved a summer spent in Sydney, Australia validating the use of activity monitors in visually impaired individuals. For his research, Dr. Bajaj has received the ARVO MIT Outstanding Poster Presentation Award, National Eye Institute Grant, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine MSRS Excellence in Research Award, High Value Healthcare Case Conference Innovation Award, and Dean’s Research Grant.

Dr. Bajaj’s work has been published in journals such as Ophthalmology Retina, Journal of Glaucoma, and Ophthalmic and Physiological Optics. He has presented his research internationally at conferences such as Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), American Society of Retina Specialists, American Glaucoma Society, Wilmer Research Day, Johns Hopkins Medical Student Research Day, and McGill Science Undergraduate Society Research Day.
