Daisy Shu completed her PhD at the University of Sydney, Australia in the Lens Research Laboratory headed by Frank Lovicu where she explored growth factor signaling pathways during cataract formation. She is currently a postdoctoral research fellow in the Magali Saint-Geniez laboratory at Schepens Eye Research Institute, Mass Eye and Ear where she is investigating the role of mitochondria and metabolism in retinal eye diseases. She is a recipient of the Fight for Sight Leonard & Robert Weintraub Postdoctoral Fellowship and more recently, the Postdoctoral Fellowship Program in Macular Degeneration Research from the BrightFocus Foundation.

Daisy is fascinated by wound healing mechanisms in the eye. The connecting themes in her research projects build on our current understanding of how scars and fibrotic membranes form. Since the eye contains mostly transparent tissues to improve transparency and vision, scars can lead to devastating blindness. She seeks to develop novel ways of promoting wound healing and perserving the normal tissue architecture, thereby preventing vision loss.

She currently serves on the Association for Vision in Research and Ophthalmology (ARVO) Professional Development and Education Committee, as the International Society for Eye Research (ISER) Young Investigator Representative and the Vice-Chair of the Harvard Medical Postdoc Association Communications Committee.
