Please join us for the kick off to our new series of workshops and talks entitled:
Talking 'Bout My Generation: Celebrating the New Culture of Learning in Medical Education
This series is jointly sponsored by the Harvard Medical School Office of Educational Quality Improvement Faculty Development, MD Program and the Sexual and Gender Minority Health Equity Initiative.
Together, we will be exploring topics and issues related to generational diversity, habits of communication, and equity and inclusivity in the classroom.
Kicking off the series with Part 1: Understanding Today's Learner will be:

Noelle Lopez, PhD
Assistant Director, Equity and Inclusion,
Harvard University Derek Bok Center for Teaching & Learning.
Noelle collaborates with students, faculty, staff, and administrators to support pedagogical effectiveness and innovation, student identities, and exploring power dynamics in learning environments. Noelle received her Master's and Doctoral degrees in Philosophy from the University of Oxford on a Rhodes Scholarship.
For the 1.5 hour workshop we will explore:
- What is the previous classroom experience of today's students, and how could that influence their experience at HMS?
- How do we understand different learning goals and styles influenced by generational and cultural shifts?
Learning Objectives include:
- Develop an understanding of the undergraduate college learning environments that many HMS students will have experienced
- Become familiar with the language and concepts that today's students engage for better communication
- Discern new tools for your own pedagogical practice for your pre-clinical and clinical teaching success
