Faculty from the Department of Otolaryngology at Harvard Medical School had an excellent representation in Atlanta, Georgia at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS) earlier this month. There were more than 90 outstanding presentations by our faculty members, residents, fellows and other trainees, with additional poster presentations. Our faculty were called on to moderate panels, serve on editorial functions, and be “experts” at lunches.
Notably, Mark Shrime, MD, MPH, PhD, FACS, received the 2018 Arnold P. Gold Foundation Award for Humanism in Medicine for his contributions to the field and Noah Siegel, MD, helped organize the “Otos on the Run” 5K. Residents Ashley Miller, MD, and Alisa Yamasaki, MD, placed first and second in the race.
Our Harvard alumni function held at the Capital City Club (pictured above) was also well attended and a great chance for alumni spanning many years to catch up.
We were also well represented at the American Rhinologic Society's annual meeting, which was held in Atlanta just prior to the AAO-HNS. Our faculty took home three of the four presentation awards, including first and second place for basic science and first place for clinical. Benjamin Bleier, MD, FACS, and resident Alan Workman, MD, MTR, won first place in the basic science award for their work and Eric Holbrook, MD, won first place in clinical.
