Member of the Faculty in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, Harvard Medical School
Physician and Surgeon, Mass Eye and Ear
Dr. Matthew Russell is a board-certified comprehensive ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgeon at Mass Eye and Ear. Upon graduating from the Boston University School of Medicine, he completed his general surgery internship and residency training in otolaryngology–head and neck surgery at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).
In 2011, Dr. Russell joined the faculty at UCSF, where he would serve as UCSF’s inaugural Otolaryngology Hospitalist for more than a decade. His role incorporated a novel practice paradigm that involved care for complex, high acuity patients in an academic setting. At UCSF, he served as co-chair of the hospital’s Professionalism Committee, as well as numerous committees focused on patient safety and quality improvement.
Dr. Russell’s primary interests at UCSF included complicated infections of the head and neck (invasive fungal infections, intracranial and orbital infections from the paranasal sinuses and necrotizing fasciitis), extradural skull base surgery and advanced rhinology, complex airway management (including airway obstruction, airway stenosis and surgical airway management) and voice and swallowing problems in an inpatient setting. At Mass Eye and Ear, his primary focus will be on comprehensive otolaryngology in the community.
