Dr. Georgios Theocharidis first completed an MEng degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He then relocated to the UK where he acquired an MSc in Biomedical Engineering from Imperial College London. During his PhD research in the Prof John Connelly lab at Queen Mary University of London, he investigated the role of type VI collagen within the skin and demonstrated that it regulates dermal matrix assembly and influences fibroblast behavior.

He moved to the US in 2016 working as postdoctoral research fellow in Dr. Aristidis Veves' lab and leading several projects with a focus on different approaches to characterize the mechanisms of impaired diabetic wound healing and develop novel therapeutic interventions to enhance wound closure. His work has resulted in first authorships in high-ranking journals including Journal of Investigative DermatologyDiabetesBiomaterialsNature Communications and Nature Biomedical Engineering. He was promoted to junior faculty in 2020. In addition, he has obtained multiple awards and grants, such as an EPSRC PhD fellowship (2012), a George and Marie Vergottis Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship (2017), a Joslin Diabetes Center Pilot and Feasibility Grant (2022) and a 3M Fellowship (2023).
