About Us

The Center for Patient-Derived Models for Personalized Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) is dedicated to developing clinically relevant cancer models that advance precision oncology and translational research.

We work in close collaboration with clinical teams at BIDMC to facilitate IRB-compliant specimen acquisition, clinical annotation, and investigator-initiated translational studies. We generate and maintain experimentally ready patient-derived organoids (PDOs) core-needle biopsies, liquid biopsies, and surgical specimens representing diverse tumor types. Standardized protocols ensure high-efficiency tissue processing, optimized culture conditions, quality control, and cryopreservation for long-term biobanking and distribution. Where feasible, matched stromal populations are isolated from the same patient specimen to enable mechanistic studies of tumor–stroma interactions.

Our core provides model characterization, rapid processing for time-sensitive applications, viability assays, imaging, and histology. We also support investigators through hands-on training, method development, and grant preparation.
