Janet Mullington, PhD
Dr. Janet Mullington is Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School and Vice Chair for Neurology at BIDMC. She is Director of the Clinical Research Center at BIDMC, one of the Harvard Clinical and Translational Science Award funded research units, which supports early career stage researchers and clinical investigation across the departments and divisions of the medical center. She is actively involved in educational initiatives to support career development in clinical & translational investigation, including serving as an advisor to medical students in research through the Scholars in Medicine Office. Dr. Mullington serves on the Executive Committee of the Scholars in Medicine Program of Harvard Medical School, a role dedicated to serving the research training mission of the school. She is a mentor for Harvard Catalyst’s Career Catalyst program and is the Minority Recruitment Chair of the Sleep and Circadian Neurobiology T32 at the Division of Sleep Medicine. Dr. Mullington’s scientific contributions are in the area of physiological, medically relevant, consequences of sleep deficiency, including the effects of insufficient quality and quantity of sleep on host defense mechanisms and mechanisms of recovery. Her group uses varied experimental physiological sleep disruption challenge models that involve investigation of inflammatory, autonomic and brain electrophysiological measures. They examine the behavioral and psychological correlates of deficient sleep with a particular interest in fatigue, mood and alertness, and pain, using experimental and cognitive function testing.
