Adelina Barbosa Alves
She is Capeverdean and has lived in Boston since the age of nine.
For the past thirty years of her professional life, she has served in many capacities and all have
been devoted to serving the most vulnerable in the City of Boston. She is a Master-Level Mental
Health Counselor, Chemical Dependency Counselor, and a Licensed Social Worker with 20+ years
of experience in Case Management. She specializes in community engagement, infectious disease
medical and social case management coordination, substance use disorder, and trauma counseling
in outpatient settings. She has been a member of the Dorchester Nurturing Center since 1999 as a
Parent Facilitator. Adelina served on the BPHC Trauma Response for about nine years, during a
period when such support was non-existent. She is also a founding member of the UNIDO, currently
known as the Capeverdean Association of Boston.
Adelina works as a Mental Health Therapist in Boston and she has been married to the love of her
life for the past 34 years and has two wonderful and accomplished children, one serves as a Clinical
Counselor at the Boston Medical Center, and the other as an Academic Leader in Boston Public
Schools. Her Christian faith keeps her connected to what is important in life such as spending time
with those that are dear to her, her love for animals, and the preservation of our planet for our
children. As a lifelong learner, she is currently registered at Harvard University as a part-time
student starting in January. Learning about philosophy in such a magical setting will be a wonderful
gift to her soul.
