We had a great time attending the ACG 2024 Annual Conference in Philadelphia, PA this week. Huge congratulations to Vikram Rangan, MD, who won the Presidential Poster Award for his work on A Pilot Study of Crofelemer for Functional Diarrhea!
Crofelemer—an anti-secretory, anti-diarrheal drug—was found to decrease stool consistency and abdominal pain in patients with Functional Diarrhea (FDr), without causing significant side effects like constipation. It thus appears to be safe and effective for use in FDr.
As FDr is a common diagnosis with limited treatments, this finding may be a breakthrough for FDr patients. Larger trials will be necessary to more thoroughly assess safety and longer term efficacy.
