Sleep and Inflammation
The Sleep and Inflammatory Systems Laboratory at BIDMC is internationally recognized as a leading lab in research related to the biological basis of sleep disturbance and deficiency in men and women across the lifespan. We utilize intensive physiological monitoring and testing in experimental models of repeated sleep restriction/disturbance and recovery, sleep extension, and naturalistic observation in both healthy adults and patient populations including people living with insomnia and hypertension. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, much of our research has focused on understanding and treating Long COVID. Some of our current research priorities include:
- Characterizing nonrestorative sleep in Long COVID
- Searching for Long COVID biomarkers
- Sex differences in pain
- Interventions for nonrestorative sleep
- Interventions for post-infectious syndromes
