Sarnoff Fellow Daniel Johnson Presents at 2025 Sarnoff Conference

Daniel Johnson, BA presented one of his year-long research projects this weekend at the 2025 Sarnoff Cardiovascular Research Daniel Johnson presenting at Sarnoff ASM 2025 Foundation Annual Scientific Meeting in Cambridge, MA. Daniel is a fourth-year medical student at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine who has joined the Health Care Policy Research section for his 2024-2025 Sarnoff Cardiovascular Research Fellowship.

His presentation detailed heart failure, myocardial infarction, and stroke outcomes after private equity acquisitions of US hospitals. He shared findings that, when comparing private equity acquired hospitals to matched control hospitals between 2012 and 2019, at private equity- acquired hospitals, patients with heart failure experienced no change in clinical outcomes, despite a decrease in clinical risk. Additionally, Daniel found that a higher proportion of patients transferred out were Black patients.

This manuscript is currently under revision at the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

We look forward to hearing more from Daniel and his impressive research at the AcademyHealth Annual Research Meeting in June.
