Call for Leaders - Cancer Translational Research Hub

Position Description

Cancer Translational Research Hub Leaders will be drawn from the BIDMC faculty (2-3 in total), and will include at least one member with a primarily clinical research focus and another with a major focus on basic research. Hub co-leaders will work closely with Translational Research Hub Task Force members, Liaisons and the Chief Academic Officer. As the Hub develops, co-leaders will raise awareness about Hub activities, create a scientific community around the Hub and promote scientific relevance and excellence. Hub co-leaders will collaborate with the Technology Ventures Office, Philanthropy and the Communications teams to attract funding and visibility.

Roles for Hub Co-Leaders include:

  1. Further define the specific structural and functional elements of the Hub:

    a. Leadership structure

    b. Membership criteria

    c. Project portfolio

    d. Success metrics and milestones

  2. Specific activities:

    a. Guide plans for one (or more) major projects for the Hub

    b. Oversee member contributions 

    c. Create platforms to facilitate research interactions

    d. Create "scientific glues", e.g., sharing methods, reagents, animal/cell lines, etc.

    e. Strive to obtain program project grants, training grants, industry/development funding

    f. Grow Hub membership

  3. Commitment to fostering research-clinical interactions/collaborations within the Hub

Ideal Qualifications:

  1. MD, PhD, or both with active laboratory or clinical practice at BIDMC
  2. Faculty member whose research and/or clinical focus aligns with Hub objectives. 
  3. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  4. Interest and enthusiasm for collaborative, multi-disciplinary research 
  5. Applicants in early-mid career stage (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor) will be accepted. Professors are not prohibited to apply
  6. Joint leadership application for Hub Leadership from a basic and clinical faculty member for the co-Leader roles is highly encouraged, but separate applications are also welcome

Support for Hub Co-Leaders:

  1. Salary support (8% effort per co-leader) 
  2. Administrative support
  3. Three-year term(s) aligned with fiscal year (October 1 – September 30)

Applications should include the following:

  1. Cover letter briefly describing your ideas and/or goals for the Translational Research Hub (not to exceed 2 pages)
  2. Brief recommendation letter from your Division Chief or Department Chair 
  3. NIH Biosketch

 

Application deadline is 5 PM on August 14th, 2026. Please submit your application via email to Dr. Teresia Osborn at aosborn5@bidmc.harvard.edu. Proposals will be reviewed by the Translational Research Hubs Task Force.

The Search Committee will invite the top candidates for interviews by the end of August, 2026 and co-Leaders will be announced on September 17th at the BIDMC 2026 Research Retreat.
