Assistant Professor in Anaesthesia, HMS

Dr. Talmor spoke about Dr. Lisbon’s many contributions and outstanding work in building the specialty of Critical Care at BIDMC:

“Alan has been with our department since 1976 and since then has contributed to our department in ways that are impossible to measure.  We have a strong presence in our ICUs and the reason for this is that for 20 years he directed our ICUs, maintained our presence there, and set a standard for clinical excellence that continues today. Under his leadership, everyone who works in the ICU is valued, equal and respected in their opinion.  He collaborated not only with other physicians but with nurses, respiratory technicians, with scientists we brought into the ICU to help solve problems.  We are in many ways what we are as a department because of Alan’s strong contributions in the ICU.”

Dr. Talmor spoke about the exceptional work and leadership of Dr. Sarge on behalf of our Critical Care Division:

“Todd has brought collaboration to a new level in the ICU - our relationships there are outstanding. Todd has mentored dozens of fellows and many young faculty members.  All of our younger medical staff pass through Todd’s hands as trainees. He’s lectured around the world and contributed enormously to research.  During COVID Todd was a true hero in our ICUs, tirelessly organizing and coordinating teams and caring for patients.  It is a great pleasure to honor him with this chair and I look forward to the next chapter in his career as the new Alan Lisbon Chair of Critical Care.”
