Clinical Outcomes in Reconstructive Surgery
We study short- and long-term outcomes following reconstructive surgery using large institutional cohorts and national databases. Our work identifies patient-, disease-, and procedure-specific risk factors for complications, helping refine surgical decision-making and improve safety across diverse reconstructive populations.
Perfusion Imaging and Microsurgical Innovation
The Lee Lab has focused on advancing near-infrared imaging technologies to assess tissue perfusion in reconstructive surgery. Using platforms such as the FLARE system and Spatial Frequency Domain Imaging, these approaches have been successfully translated from preclinical models to first-in-human clinical trials, enabling real-time evaluation of perfusion and thrombosis during microsurgical reconstruction to support intraoperative decision-making.
Patient-Centered Outcomes, Access, and Health Literacy
The group examines patient satisfaction, quality of life, and decision-making following reconstructive surgery, with a focus on aligning surgical approaches with patient priorities and long-term functional outcomes. In parallel, this work extends to evaluating patient access and health literacy, including the readability and quality of patient-directed educational materials. By assessing existing resources and communication practices, the team aims to improve informed decision-making and promote equitable access to reconstructive care.
Team
Our Team On The Forefront Of Research
Our team brings together surgeons, researchers, fellows, and trainees united by a shared commitment to advancing reconstructive surgery through rigorous, patient-centered research. Based within the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School, we work across disciplines to translate clinical questions into meaningful evidence.
We value collaboration, mentorship, and curiosity at every level of training. By combining diverse clinical perspectives with strong methodological expertise, our team aims to improve surgical outcomes, enhance patient experience, and shape the future of reconstructive care through innovation and evidence-based practice.
