Talya Salant, MD, PhD
Dr. Salant is a health disparities researcher, primary care physician and the Director of Community Health Research and Equity at Bowdoin St. Health Center, a community health center (CHC) in Dorchester, MA owned by BIDMC. She has served as Director of Quality and Innovations, Associate Medical Director, and Medical Director during her time at Bowdoin St. Health Center. Dr. Salant is focused on building community-based research capacity and conducting community-partnered research. Through her efforts, Bowdoin St now has clinical research facilities and a Community Advisory Board for research. Dr. Salant has led initiatives addressing health disparities that include embedding community health workers into primary care, developing group visits for chronic pain, piloting novel digital tools for tracking worrisome symptoms, and deploying culturally appropriate text messaging to improve colon cancer screening. She is currently collaborating with academic researchers to study primary care burnout, increase screening for APOL1 mediated kidney disease, track community spread of respiratory viruses, and measure environmental risks in primary care and perinatal health.
