Nelson Malone - President

Nelson C. Malone is a first-year Pathwaysstudent from Richmond, Virginia. Nelson was a first-generation college student and attended Howard University, a historically black college in Washington, D.C., where he graduated in 2015 with a B.S in Chemistry. While at Howard, he participated in the Summer Medical and Dental Education Program (SMDEP) at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons; the Amgen Scholars Program at Stanford University School of Medicine, where he conducted research in gene therapy and gene editing tools; and a fellowship with the Environmental Protection Agency working in the areas of environmental justice and community outreach. Nelson is a proud brother of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Beta Chapter. He also served as the President of Beta Kappa Chi National Scientific Honor Society, Vice-President of Recruitment for Phi Delta Epsilon International Medical Fraternity, Vice-President for the American Chemical Society, a Howard University student ambassador, and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. As the 2015-2016 President of Harvard Medical School's Student National Medical Association Chapter, his primary responsibility is to ensure the chapter remains aligned with its mission to support current and future underrepresented minority medical students, address the needs of underserved communities, and increase the number of clinically excellent, culturally competent and socially conscious physicians. Nelson is currently interested in surgery and anesthesiology but looks forward to gaining experience in a variety of fields. He hopes to continue in fulfilling his destiny, helping and giving back in anyway possible, especially in the context of disadvantaged and underserved communities. He asserts, “While these accolades are a testament to hard work and dedication, I am thankful for the support of family and friends and realize that I am nothing without God.”
