Postdoctoral Research Fellows

Hiroki Furuya, MD, PhD

Hiroki is a postdoctoral research fellow with a keen interest in understanding the mechanisms of autoimmunity. He joined Iannis’ lab in 2021, and as a rheumatologist, he hopes his study would contribute to a better outcome of patients suffering from psoriatic arthritis in the future.

Hiroki obtained his MD and PhD at Chiba University, Japan under the supervision of Dr. Hiroshi Nakajima, investigating the cellular and molecular crosstalk in the development of allergic airway inflammation.

He is a huge fan of tennis and enjoys playing tennis in his spare time. Hiroki hopes to join a tennis tournament in Boston in the near future.

Raghawan Akhouri, PhD

Dr. Raghawan received his PhD at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad, India where he worked on the pathophysiology of familial cold autoinflammatory syndromes (FCAS). His research work identified a heat shock protein (HSC70), as a suppressor of inflammatory signaling, and a sensor of low-temperature during pathology of FCAS disorders.

His research contributions have fetched him multiple awards at national and international forums, including a prestigious nomination for Indian National Science Academy Medal for young scientists in 2021.

Dr. Raghawan likes to travel; besides being a tourist and a foodie he spends his leisure hours in writing commentaries, short notes and poems on contemporary social issues.

Zahra Jalali, MD

Zahra got her MD from the Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, Iran in 2017. She joined Iannis team in 2021 in Boston and she is interested in bone and skin pathology. Zahra is en route to becoming a passionate pathologist and in her spare time she enjoys cycling, playing chess, reading philosophy, and keeping a journal.

Maxime Adrien Mohamed Jeljeli, MD, PhD

Dr Maxime Jeljeli was an Assistant Professor of the Department of Immunology of Cochin Hospital and the University of Paris since 2016. He earned his MD in Infectious Diseases from the University of Tunis, Tunisia and a masters and PhD in Immunology from Paris Descartes University. In 2021, he received the Michel Chignard thesis prize awarded by the Research and Study Group of Inflammation Mediators (GREMI). His research activity include the immunomodulatory effects of the innate immune memory of the myeloid cells.

He is extremely passionate about research and hopes to build upon his research experience as a post-doctoral research fellow at BIDMC and the Harvard Medical School community.

Deniz Uğurlu-Çimen, PhD

Deniz Uğurlu-Çimen holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from Bilkent University, a PhD degree from Koç University on Molecular Biology and Genetics. Her master studies were focused on treatment of breast cancer in Işık Yuluğ Lab. Her doctoral studies were focused on understanding molecular and epigenetic mechanisms of induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) reprogramming in Tamer Önder’s Lab. She has been supported by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) throughout her academic education.

As a post-doctoral researcher, she investigated the molecular mechanisms of monozygotic twinning in Bruno Reversade’s Lab. Deniz currently works on cellular and molecular pathogenic mechanisms of inflammatory arthritis in our lab.
