Research Goals

The Machado Lab is focused on the central mechanisms underlying the regulation of physiological and behavioral responses induced by diverse stressors.

We use genetic-driven neural manipulation methods to elucidate and disrupt the neural circuits recruited during immune challenges, food deprivation or psychogenic stress. These innovative approaches are also used to map out the brain circuitries and identify genetic markers linked to specific groups of neurons that control thermoregulatory, autonomic, metabolic, and wake-sleep responses.
