Michael J. Grey, PhD is a Staff Scientist in the Division of Gastroenterology at BIDMC and an Assistant Professor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Grey earned his PhD with Distinction in Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics at Columbia University and completed postdoctoral training in structural biology at Harvard Medical School. After serving as a Health Science Policy Analyst and as a Program Officer at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, Dr. Grey joined Boston Children's Hospital for mentored scientist career development in epithelial cell biology.

Dr. Grey's lab integrates biophysical, biochemical, cellular, and in vivo approaches to understand how epithelial cells interact with and respond to environmental factors at mucosal surfaces. Current projects focus on the function and evolution of epithelial ER stress sensors, host-microbiota interactions regulating the colon mucus barrier, and the impact of disease-causing mutations on protein structure and cellular function in digestive diseases.
