Jan Heng, PhD
Meet Dr. Heng, our director of RNA Detection Unit within the Precision RNA Medicine Core at BIDMC. She is also an Assistant Professor of Pathology at BIDMC. She leads a breast cancer translational research laboratory, aiming to uncover biomarkers with clinical relevance. With academic roots in Australia, she transitioned to breast cancer research during her fellowship at BIDMC.
Dr. Heng's notable contributions include participation in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), where she conducted integrative morphology-genomic analyses in breast cancer. She also collaborates with the Nurses' Health Study (NHS) to understand how epidemiological factors influence breast tumor profiles.
Her team develops AI-based tools for identifying novel breast cancer risk biomarkers. Additionally, Dr. Heng's research explores the impact of Gender Affirming Hormonal Therapy (GAHT) on breast physiology.
Dr. Heng's work advances our understanding of breast cancer and its clinical applications.
