Lauren Pepi, PhD
Meet Dr. Lauren Pepi, our Glycomics director at BIDMC. Dr. Pepi received her B.A. in Chemistry and Biology in 2015 from Assumption University and her Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry in 2020 from the University of Georgia under the direction of Dr. Jon Amster. Her Ph.D. work focused on fundamental studies of tandem mass spectrometry of glycosaminoglycans. Dr. Pepi joined the Analytical Service and Training team at the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center (CCRC) under the direction of Dr. Parastoo Azadi in 2020 as a Postdoctoral Research Associate, where her research focused on glycomic and glycoproteomic characterization of N- and O-glycans using mass spectrometry techniques. At the BIDMC Glycomics Core where she works with researchers from around the world to help answer their glyco-related questions.
Throughout Dr. Pepi’s studies she has been privileged to work on a variety of Mass Spectrometers, including FT-ICR MS, Orbitrap MS, Ion Trap MS, Triple Quadrupole MS, and MALDI-TOF MS. Dr. Pepi has worked on many sample types and sample sources, including tissues and cells from invertebrates, mammals and bacteria. In addition to her strong mass spectrometry background, Dr. Pepi also has experience with protein purification, HPLC, UPLC, blotting, and chemical derivatization. Dr. Pepi is currently working on developing new methods to expand the scope of the Glycomics Core to a broader range of glycan types.
