Linus Tsai, MD, PhD

Co-Director of Functional Genomics and Bioinformatics

Meet Linus Tsai, MD/PhD, our Functional Genomics and Bioinformatics Director at BIDMC. He is also an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School, based in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism within the Department of Medicine at BIDMC. Linus has a diverse academic background, earning his MD/PhD from U.C. San Francisco.

His research journey has taken him from studying the genetics of drug responses in Drosophila Melanogaster to exploring molecular and genetic control of adipocyte development and metabolism, including epigenomic profiling, transcriptional regulation, and the molecular basis of insulin resistance during his postdoctoral training in Evan Rosen’s lab.

Linus's true passion lies in applying genetics and genomics to gain unbiased insights into molecular and cell-cell circuits. Beyond the lab, he enjoys life as a proud dad to Oscar and Satchel. In his free time, you'll find him immersed in baseball and lacrosse games, supporting his beloved Oakland Athletics and Houston Rockets, or savoring his love for cooking and diverse cuisines.
