Health Policy Section at AHA Scientific Sessions 2025

The Health Care Policy Section had a brilliant time in New Orleans for the AHA Scientific Sessions 2025 (Nov 7-10), with six presentations by section trainees, five sessions moderated by members of our section, and Dr. Wadhera was invited to speak in two different sessions. 

Abstract Posters

Daniel Johnson, BA the 2024-2025 Sarnoff Fellow in our section, presented his work on DASH diet adherence among US adults with hypertension (Johnson, Wadhera)

Rhea Dash, MD, MPH presented her work on high catastrophic spending among younger patients with cardiovascular disease or related risk factors (Dash, Zu, Zheng, Wadhera) 

Moderated Posters

Jingyi Gong, MD a T32 fellow at the Smith Center, presented her work on chronic kidney disease awareness among adults with cardiovascular risk factors or disease in the US. This study was simultaneously published in JAMA Cardiology. (Gong, Vuduganathan, Wadhera)

Lucas Marinacci, MD, faculty investigator, presented his work on widening income-based disparities in cardiovascular mortality among working-age US adults. (Marinacci, Wadhera)

Victoria Bartlett, MD presented her work on acute myocardial infarction and stroke outcomes vary substantially across private equity firms. (Bartlett, Zheng, Liu, Johnson, Wadhera)

Bassel Shanab, BA presented his work on Medicare Advantage chronic condition special needs plans (C-SNPs) for people with heart failure. (Shanab, Oseran, Orav, Phelan, Wadhera, Figueroa)

Sessions Moderated

Andrew Oseran, MD, MBA, MS moderated the sessions "Advancing Research in Advanced Heart Failure" and "Crash and Burn: Cardiogenic Shock Clinical Science"

Jingyi Ging, MD moderated the session "Addressing the Cardiac-Kidney Connection: Defining Risk and Optimizing Outcomes" 

Rishi Wadhera, MD, MBA, MS moderated the sessions "Getting to the Heart of the One Big Beautiful Bill: How Sweeping Reforms Will Reshape Cardiovascular Care" and "Dollars, Data, and Disparities: Who Really Pays in Cardiovascular Care?"

Dr. Wadhera was also invited to present "The One Big Beautiful Bill Unpacked: Why It Matters for Cardiovascular Care and Health" and "Potential Risks of Private Equity in Cardiovascular Medicine"
