The Health Policy Section had a phenomenal presence at the American College of Cardiology Scientific Sessions 2026 in New Orleans! Highlights included Dr. Marinacci winning the Young Investigator Awards Competition in Outcomes Research, Dr. Wadhera discussing the inaugural JACC Stats report, and many incredible oral and poster presentations from fellows Jingyi Gong, Nicholas Chiu, Eden Engel-Rebitzer, and Prihatha Narasimmaraj.
Poster Presentations
Dr. Jingyi Gong, T32 Fellow, presented her work "Chronic Kidney Disease Prevalence and Awareness Among US Adults with Cardiometabolic Conditions - Implications for CKM Health"
Dr. Nicholas Chiu, T32 Fellow, presented his work on the significant barriers in access to care and prescription medication that young adults with myocardial infarction experience in the United States.
Moderated Posters/ Panel Presentations
Dr. Jingyi Gong also presented her work on the discordance between diagnosis of hypertension based on manual and automatic sphygmomanometer measurements.
Drs. Eden Engel-Rebitzer and Prihatha Narasimmaraj presented their work on Medicare coverage and cardiovascular outcomes and SNAP cuts and cardiometabolic risk, respectively, in a session on H.R. 1, joined by Dr. Roxana Mehran (president of the ACC) and Dr. Robert Califf, former commissioner of the FDA.
Dr. Lucas Marinacci presented his work "The Inflation Reduction Act and Medication Adherence Among Adults with Cardiovascular Conditions: A Quasi-Experimental Policy Analysis" in the Young Investigator Awards Competition: Outcomes Research, winning the award.
Dr. Wadhera joined several sessions as an invited speaker, panelist, and session chair. Included in his activities were presentations on the addressing cardiovascular burden (featuring work from the first annual JACC Stats report), a level setting overview of concierge and direct reimbursement medicine and cardiology, and how legislation shapes access to heart failure therapies.
