Health Policy & Equity

Research in the Health Policy & Equity section combines the use of real-world data with advanced statistical, econometric, and epidemiological methods to answer questions related to healthcare access, quality and value, and population health, with a focus on cardiovascular outcomes. The work has explored how state and federal health policies - particularly those enacted under the Affordable Care Act and the Inflation Reduction Act - impact care delivery, clinical outcomes, and health equity.

Dr. Rishi Wadhera is the Section Head of the Health Policy and Equity section, where he uses his expertise in cardiology and public health and policy to drive high-impact research and mentor medical students and fellows. With a focus on cardiovascular risk factors and disease, this section produces work about health policy, public health, health care quality, access, and evaluation, disparities in healthcare, and epidemiology.

Work from this section has been used to guide public policy and provide insight into how people's cardiovascular health is impacted by different policies and social, economic, and geographic factors. This research program is funded primarily by the National Institute of Health (NIH) and other extramural grants. Work from this research team is published regularly in high-impact journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) and Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).
