The VanderHorst Lab studies
-
How distinct brainstem neuronal systems dynamically modulate different fundamental functions ranging from walking gait and muscle tone to respiration and arousal.
-
How age-related and neurodegenerative changes in these circuits that occur in the setting of Parkinson’s Disease, Alzheimer’s Disease, and dystonias correlate with treatment resistant symptoms such as walking and balance problems and sleep disordered breathing.
Our overall mission is to develop approaches to promote function and wellbeing in individuals suffering from these neurological conditions.
We are only able to move our research forward and up to the next level with funding and support:
We greatly appreciate the donation of time and tissues by our study participants, as these resources are critical to guide our research lines in directions that are most relevant for our patients.
We are especially grateful for donations from patients and their caregivers, which have been and are critical for the development of high-risk, high-reward research lines.
