This dedication is especially evident within the Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care, and Pain Medicine.
In recent years, our department has made significant progress in developing and implementing a strategy to engage with the global health community and actively promote more equitable and just medical care worldwide. This strategy encompasses collaborative research projects, training-of-trainers programs, and efforts to drive innovation and develop new technologies.
The Division of Global Health within our department thrives on the collaborative input of our students, trainees, and faculty. Our work is guided by the following vision and core values:
Vision:
To contribute to the equitable provision of high-quality perioperative and critical care for patients worldwide, particularly in low-resource and limited-capacity settings.
Core Values:
-
Access to essential, lifesaving anesthesia care is a fundamental human right.
-
The practice of medicine is a moral undertaking that requires an understanding of the social, scientific, political, financial, and personal factors influencing patient care.
-
Education is vital to sharing knowledge and fostering understanding between healthcare partners for the benefit of providers, patients, and their families.
-
Research elevates the quality of care delivered globally and must be conducted in the spirit of partnership, with a strong commitment to social, moral, and equitable principles.
-
Equitable health delivery is paramount; where a person lives should never determine the quality of care they receive.
