The Center of Education Research, Technology, and Innovation (CERTAIN) is dedicated to pioneering innovative approaches that enhance education for both medical trainees and faculty. Our primary goal is to establish pre-clinical proficiency, ensuring an objective demonstration of “readiness to perform” before residents enter the clinical environment. By leveraging the latest research and technological advancements, we create a rigid educational framework that equips learners with the skills and confidence needed for real-world medical practice.

The Center offers training sessions and courses for various medical learners utilizing a multimodal approach that combines online modules, in-person lectures, and hands-on practice in the Anesthesia Skills Lab.
Technology & Innovation
CERTAIN is leading the integration of technology into medical education through initiatives like VR and AR simulators for procedural skills and teamwork training. Additionally, it supports innovative research, such as Dr. Haobo Ma's 3D printing project for fiberoptic intubation and collaborates with Interventional Radiology on a CRICO-funded study to enhance central venous catheter placement training using motion metrics for objective feedback.
Pedagogy
CERTAIN is at the forefront of advancements in medical education, driven by Dr. Daniel Walsh's online Journal Club curriculum and interactive branched chain learning modules, Dr. Matyal's initiative to enhance peer-assisted teaching among residents, and Dr. Nadav Levy's implementation of in-situ simulation training for faculty and residents.
