Project Title: AI-PAD (Artificial intelligence for fair prediction of adverse outcomes following revascularization for lower limb peripheral arterial disease using French health information systems).
Location: This full-time position is based in Rennes, France.
Application Deadline: August 15, 2025
About the Institution and Department:
EHESP-School of Public Health is a scientific, cultural and professional public institution. EHESP is also a component institution of the University of Rennes (Public Experimental Institution, “EPE”).
As a platform for teaching and research in public health, EHESP is structured in departments (human and social sciences / management institute / quantitative methods in public health / environmental health sciences) integrated into an interdisciplinary project including certified research centers. EHESP offers training courses for senior managers for civil service, national master’s degree, specialized master’s degrees, doctoral program and a very rich offer of lifelong learning. EHESP welcomes 1,300 students or doctoral students and 7,000 trainees in professional development from 50 different nationalities and invites more than 1,000 lecturers per year.
This position is in the METIS department and is attached to the ARENES laboratory (UMR CNRS 6051 ARENES– Health Services Research Team INSERM U1309 - https://arenes.eu/). The department's mission is to provide training and develop research in epidemiology, statistics and population health information systems, with a view to guiding public health action. It has 12 lecturers/researchers and more than 10 young researchers representing the following scientific disciplines, professions and fields: epidemiology, biostatistics, pharmacy, and data sciences for public health.
Position Description:
The post-doctoral fellow will work on the AI-PAD project under the supervision of Nolwenn Le Meur, professor at METIS, EHESP. This project is supported by a grant from Inserm and the French Ministry of Health in the context of MESSIDORE 2023 call operated by IReSP (AAP-2024-MSDR-365849).
The AI-PAD project proposes to study how machine learning methods and massive health data (including healthcare consumption and socio-demographic data) can help vascular and endovascular surgeons choose an effective, reasonable and equitable treatment for better outcomes in the management of peripheral arterial diseases (PAD). The consortium is composed of researchers in statistics, epidemiology, data sciences for public health and vascular surgeons with strong clinical research activities. The consortium is international with partners from France, USA, and Japan.
The post-doctoral fellow will compare ML algorithms to traditional statistical models to predict outcomes in the management of PAD using health information systems data and various performance indicators, including fairness metrics. In parallel, the post-doctoral fellow will help supervise internships of master students evaluating the impact of error in data (data entry, mismatch…) on the performance of ML algorithms. Finally, the post-doctoral fellow will assist in the preparation of regulatory files for external data access, data analysis and publication of results.
