Submitting samples to us is easy. On this page, you will find the information you need to know how to submit your samples. We also ask you to provide key information to give you fast results.

1) Register an iLab Account for ALL SERVICES
Please note that FunGen does not administrate the iLab system, if you have questions or problems registering an account, please contact iLab directly: support@ilabsolutions.com

2) Place an Electronic Request in iLab
The form is a dynamic document that can be easily edited, so don’t be afraid to write in a question and submit.

IMPORTANT: Look below for important information to fill out on the form. There is no such thing as too much information to provide to us!

3) Provide Payment Information
BIDMC investigators:
please provide a 33-digit billing code
DFCI investigators: please provide a project number.
BWH investigators: receive internal rates, but still must provide a PO
Harvard/HMS investigators: xxxxxx
External/Industry investigators: A valid purchase order (PO) must be provided before we can begin work. To facilitate this process, we can generate an official quotation once you have submitted an iLab request.

IMPORTANT: POs should be made out as follows: (Find out exact info)

General Requirements for Sample Submission

  • Clear labels, attach list of sample info to iLabs or email to FunGen
  • Include iLab Order ID
  • Make sure samples are sealed
  • At least 10 µL unless QC only

DNA & NGS Library Submission (4C)

DNA Sequencing Libaries: Submit at least 10nM in at least 10 µL volume, (15 -20 µL preferred, more if suspected low concentrations of < 0.5 ng/µL). Submit in securely sealed tubes or plate.

DNA QC: Submit at least 5µL. Submit in securely sealed tubes or plate.

Volume: >10µl

RNA Submission (-80C)

RNA QC Only: Submit at least 5µL sample.Keep at -80, submit in securely sealed tubes.

mRNAseq (polyA enrichment):

Purified Total RNA: 500ng (more is fine, less can be OK too)

Common Extraction Methods: Qiagen (i.e. RNeasy, miRNeasy) or Trizol. DNase treatment is strongly recommended.

-Minimum input: 50ng

-FunGen input amount: 100-200ng

-Concentration range: 5-500 ng/µl

-Submit at -80 C temperatures

TotalRNAseq (rRNA depletion):

-Purified Total RNA: 500ng (more is fine, less can be OK too)

Common Extraction Methods: Qiagen (i.e. RNeasy, miRNeasy) or Trizol. DNase treatment Required.

-Minimum input: 50ng

-FunGen input amount: 100-200ng

-Volume: >10µl

-Concentration range: 5-500 ng/µl

Low Input TotalRNAseq:

-Amount: 250pg-10ng purified DNase I treated total RNA

-Quality: DV200 > 25%

FAQs

1. How do I place a request?

  1. Register an iLab account
  2. Place electronic iLab Request
  3. Drop off (clearly labeled) samples
  4. Await notification that results are available

2. Where can I drop off my samples?

There are 3 drop off locations: All drop-offs require prior

  1. FunGen Staff can meet you at the Reception Desk located at the Center for Life Sciences, 3 Blackfan Cir.
  2. Directly to the Core Facility on the 7th floor #CLS728, at 3 Blackfan Cir.
  3. FedEx

3. What is the turnaround time?

Turnaround time varies depending on the specific service request and to a lesser extent the number of samples in the project. In general, turnaround time is 3-4 weeks from the time samples are received in the lab. However, for more specialized less common library prep methods and very large projects (100s of samples), turnaround time will typically be longer.

4. Where is the core located?

On the 7th floor of the CLS building (room 728) at 3 blackfan cir.

5. How do I collect my data?

Actual samples can be picked up in person from the core. Bioinformatic data can be downloaded by following these instructions XXXX. NOTE: Data storage and sample storage policies
