Professional Biography

Dr. Mukamal serves as co-site director for the Harvard Medical School Fellowship in General Medicine and Primary Care, director of the Hinohara Primary Care Fellowship, and Department Associate in Nutrition at the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health. His primary research interests are investigating the role of dietary and lifestyle factors – with an additional focus on alcohol consumption – on the incidence and prognosis of neurocognitive and cardiovascular disorders and their physiological intermediates. He leads the Diabetes Working Group for the Cardiovascular Health Study and adjudicate cardiovascular diseases in the Nurses Health Studies and Health Professionals Follow-up Study.  Some of his recent projects include characterization of the role of non-esterified fatty acid species in cardiometabolic and neurocognitive diseases in older adults and a short-term feeding studies of whole blueberries among older community-living adults and white wine among women with previous breast cancer.
