Dr. Fourie Bezuidenhout has been awarded a 2026 RSNA Research & Education Foundation Research Seed Grant for his project, “Mapping the Microstructure of Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma Utilizing Ex Vivo 9.4T MRI and Radiomic Analysis: An Exploratory Study.” Following a national peer‑review process, the application was highly ranked and approved for funding by the Foundation’s Board of Trustees.
This award builds on two recent major funding successes for Dr. Bezuidenhout and his collaborators. Earlier this year, he received the 2026 Society of Abdominal Radiology (SAR) Fund Research Award, a two‑year grant of up to $25,000. In addition, David Alsop, PhD, and Dr. Bezuidenhout were awarded a significant supplement to Dr. Alsop’s existing Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA‑H) award to advance the development of a novel Water Exchange MRI sequence aimed at earlier detection of pancreatic cancer, with Dr. Marty Smith joining the team to help refine new and existing imaging sequences.
Together, these three awards reflect our department’s strength in imaging innovation and translational research with meaningful patient impact.
