Dr. Ai-ris Yonekura Collier is a physician-scientist specializing in high-risk pregnancy care in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at BIDMC.
The goal of her translational research is to characterize the maternal cellular immune phenotype in pregnancy disorders like preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction and in the setting of infectious disease like Zika virus or SARS-CoV-2.
Research Overview
Yonekura-Collier lab at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center aims to characterize the maternal cellular immune phenotype in pregnancy disorders like preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction and in the setting of infectious disease. During the COVID-19 pandemic, our lab led the hospital-wide COVID-19 Biorepository and contributed as a co-investigator in the Ad26.COV2.S COVID-19 vaccine booster trial.
We are interested in characterizing immune tolerance mechanisms at the maternal-fetal interface in both healthy and complicated pregnancies and creating large clinical biospecimen repositories to facilitate translational immunologic studies in pregnancy. Our lab champions the inclusion of pregnant and lactating individuals in observational and interventional clinical trials, striving for comprehensive research that meets their specific needs. We are passionate about educating healthcare professionals and the public on the importance of this inclusion to improve health outcomes for mothers and their children.
We are affiliated with Harvard Medical School and Center for Virology and Vaccine Research (CVVR).
