About Our Harvard Affiliated Program at BIDMC

The Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency (HAEMR) at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) is a three-year program based at a Level I trauma center that treats over 57,000 patients annually. Residents gain diverse clinical experience through rotations at top Boston hospitals—including Children’s Hospital Boston, Tufts Medical Center, and local community hospitals—while accessing unparalleled academic opportunities through Harvard Medical School, its teaching hospitals, and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

HAEMR residents receive hands-on training in trauma, ultrasound, toxicology, airway management, prehospital care, disaster medicine, international emergency medicine, and basic science research. Clinical experience is carefully supervised, with progressive responsibility in patient care, teaching, and leadership. Senior residents mentor juniors, teach medical students, and help lead the ED team.
