Summary of work: Under Dr. Ho’s mentorship and guidance, the project I am working on aims to use natural language processing (NLP) to increase accuracy of labeling diagnoses such as congestive heart failure exacerbation and acute myocardial infarction during hospitalizations. Leveraging NLP to better identify admissions that meet guideline driven classifications for these conditions will increase validity of endpoint measures for outcomes studies and increase labeling efficiency relative to traditional approaches combining manual chart review and international classification of disease codes.
