Eating less can lead to a longer life: massive study in mice shows why

differerent approaches to restrict calories have different effects on lifespan

Mark Zeidel and Warren Hill were part of a large team led by Dr. Gary Churchill at The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor Maine that just published in Nature the results of a study that followed 970 genetically diverse mice over four years. The results showed that caloric restriction and intermittent fasting both resulted in lifespan extension in proportion to the degree of restriction. Interestingly, a key finding was that genetics had a larger influence on lifespan than dietary restriction.
