A powerful new tool for quantitating mouse urine on filter paper uses machine learning

ML-UrineQuant identifies mouse urine spots on filter paper

Warren Hill and his collaborators have just published a paper in Physiological Reports describing the capabilities of a new machine learning program they call ML-UrineQuant. A simple and non-harmful way of looking at bladder function in mice involves putting them on filter paper for 4 hours and then looking at the size and number of urine spots. Detecting and analyzing the spots with software has proven to be challenging however. This new publicly available software appears to be a significant improvement on existing approaches.
