A warm welcome to our incoming summer research student Shivani Ramanathan joining us from Dublin High School in San Francisco

Incoming student research intern Shivani Ramanathan

Shivani will be working under the mentorship of Drs. Warren Hill and Bryce MacIver. Her interest in urologic research stems from witnessing her mother’s experience with kidney and urinary tract disease, inspiring her passion for advancing healthcare in urologic medicine.

At BIDMC, Shivani will participate in wet-lab research using mouse models to investigate the mechanisms of urologic disease and treatment response, while also gaining experience in unique lab techniques. She is particularly interested in bladder dysfunction, and the interactions between the urinary tract and nervous system.

Outside the laboratory, Shivani is the Founder and Executive Director of Poverty Patch-Up, a global nonprofit organization that addresses health inequities through food security initiatives, delivering more than 700,000 meals across five countries. She is also a research student with the University of California Global Health Institute, where she analyses global health inequities in underserved areas.

Her combined interests in research, global health, and urology inspire Shivani to pursue a career in urologic medicine while continuing to medically assist impacted communities around the world.
