eConsent vs. REDCap

Differences between eConsent and a regular REDCap data project

  • eConsent Dashboard: For eConsent, most user interaction is via the eConsent Dashboard, a custom screen for managing consents, rather than the typical REDCap interface. The eConsent Project Manager is the only user who has access to a regular REDCap screen, and only to add fields needed to capture study-specific opt-in/opt-out questions or edit the length of the document.
  • Consent data only: eConsent projects do not contain any research data; their sole purpose is to provide a method for participants to review the consent form with an investigator and collect signatures.  All eConsents are located on a dedicated eConsent server.
  • User Management: For eConsent projects, the REDCap Support Team handles all changes of users/user rights. The PI or eConsent Project Manager must notify REDCap Support of any changes.
  • Move to Production: Moving to production is not done via a button on the Project Setup page, as in a regular data project. Instead, the eConsent Project Manager should email REDCap Support.
