Our team presented findings from the Confianza Study examining continuity of prenatal care and its relationship with patient trust among 68 postpartum patients. Participants were categorized into continuity (n=28) and discontinuity (n=40) groups based on whether they maintained care with their primary prenatal clinician.

We examined demographic and clinical characteristics associated with continuity of care. Overall, participants in the continuity and discontinuity groups were similar in age and measures of anxiety and depression. Primary clinician type differed significantly between groups, and African American participants were more frequently represented in the discontinuity group.

We also explored whether continuity of prenatal care was associated with changes in patient trust. These findings contribute to our understanding of how continuity and the organization of prenatal care may shape patients’ experiences and relationships with their healthcare providers.
