La Colaborativa has been at the forefront of empowering Latinx immigrants and their families to build vibrant, equitable communities. Through culturally accessible services, advocacy for equitable public policies, and the cultivation of emerging leaders, they foster systemic change that uplifts the voices of those too often marginalized. Providing vital support to while creating lasting policy changes to benefit all communities.
The Confianza Collaborative team joined La Colaborativa to lead an interactive sexual and reproductive health training for participants preparing to become community health workers.
The session covered STI prevention, contraception and pregnancy planning, healthy relationships, consent, and safety. Through small-group discussions, case scenarios, and role-playing, participants practiced opening sensitive conversations, responding to common misconceptions, and recognizing when to connect someone with clinical care or specialized support.
Cultural humility was central throughout the training. Participants explored how to ask questions without making assumptions, respect each person’s beliefs and reproductive goals, and share accurate information in accessible, nonjudgmental language. The session emphasized the community health worker’s role in listening, building trust, and supporting informed decisions.
We are grateful to La Colaborativa and the participants for their engagement and thoughtful conversations. It was a pleasure to support their preparation to serve as trusted resources within their communities.
