Certificate in Advanced Anesthesia Education
Certification in Advanced Anesthesia Education for Liberian Nurse Anesthetists
Liberian nurse anesthetist faculty and clinician preceptors travel to Boston once per year for a 1-month observership program. The program is sponsored by Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center -- a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital, Northeastern University Bouvé College of Health Sciences Nurse Anesthesia Program, and Boston Children’s Hospital.
The aim of this initiative is to build capacity for expert nurse anesthesia educators. This educational program focuses on evidence-based classroom simulation and clinical teaching pedagogy tailored to the preparation of practice-ready anesthesia providers.
Liberian nurse anesthetist faculty and clinician preceptors travel to Boston for this 1-month program. The program is sponsored by Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC)/Harvard Medical School, Northeastern University Nurse Anesthesia Program (NEU) and Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH). The competency-based curriculum includes didactic and experiential learning opportunities related to teaching in the classroom, simulation lab and clinical setting. A Certificate of Completion in Advanced Nurse Anesthesia Education is awarded by the partner institutions at the completion of the course.
In support of this initiative BAAC funds all costs associated with the training and travelling to the U.S for the program. Of note, unfortunately for the past few years Liberian nurse anesthetists accepted to the program have been unable to obtain travel visas to the United States. The program remains active, and we continue to seek ways to bring participants here to Boston.
