Clinical Observership

The Department of Anesthesia at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) is recognized as one of the nation’s leading clinical anesthesia groups, dedicated to delivering the highest quality of care to our patients. We continuously seek innovative ways to advance patient care globally while fostering a collaborative environment for the exchange of ideas.

The BIDMC Anesthesiology Observership Program offers participants the opportunity to gain insight into best practices that enhance anesthesia care worldwide. The program emphasizes collaboration and knowledge sharing. Observerships are informal educational experiences and do not involve direct patient care or constitute formal training.

As part of the curriculum, observers may:

  • Shadow clinical activities and procedures
  • Attend daily rounds, lectures, and seminars
  • Participate in interdisciplinary conferences held across the hospital

We currently offer two-week, three-week or four-week observerships in:

  • Obstetric Anesthesiology
  • Operating Room Anesthesiology
  • Critical Care

Eligibility

  • Proficiency in English is required
  • Practicing physicians with an interest in regional anesthesiology
  • Current trainees (i.e. residents or fellows with a demonstrated interest in Anesthesia)
