Atypical Parkinsonism Program

Experts from the Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders Center at BIDMC are leaders in the diagnosis, management and research of Atypical Parkinsonian Syndromes. These syndromes are a group of rare neurological diseases that share some of the signs and symptoms of Parkinson's disease, but with additional "atypical" signs or symptoms. Generally they are more rapidly progressive and may not respond as well to drug treatment.

Our neurologists will diagnose Atypical Parkinsonism and the probable subtype. Our interdisciplinary team will then create an individualized treatment plan that addresses your symptoms to maintain or improve your quality of life. We will help to educate and guide your caregivers and loved ones about the best ways to care for you and your needs.
