How to Apply
About the Application Process
All Applicants
The BIDMC OB/GYN Residency Program participates in the main residency match through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). Applications will only be accepted via the ResidencyCAS system.
We adhere to the specialty-wide standards for the 2025–26 OB/GYN residency application cycle:
-
Application submission deadline: September 24, 2025
-
Interview offers will be sent to applicants on October 28, 2025
-
Additional offers will follow on a rolling basis pending applicant response rates
-
We will not send more interview invitations than the number of interview slots available
-
Applicants will have a minimum of 48 hours to accept or decline an interview invitation
-
We will send our final response to applicants no later than November 26, 2025
-
We will conduct virtual interviews for all applicants, including local students.
-
We require a minimum of three letters of recommendation (LORs)
-
At least one LOR must be a Standardized Letter of Evaluation (SLOE), which is integrated in ResidencyCAS and directly filled out by the letter writer in the application platform. The SLOE template and additional applicant resources can be found here.
-
Applicants should still include two to three other traditional LORs. The updated SLOE template and applicable resources can be found here.
-
Each applicant may send a total of 18 signals with their application (3 gold signals for programs of highest interest and 15 silver signals for programs of high interest). While we do not require applicants to signal us to be considered for interview, we do weigh these significantly as part of our holistic review process.
Our program utilizes a holistic review process that includes academic record and achievements, research experience, leadership experience, community health experience, extracurricular/life experience, letters of recommendation, and signaling. Applicants are expected to submit a ResidencyCAS application including the following components:
-
Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE), also known as the "Dean's Letter"
-
Medical School Transcript
-
A minimum of three (3) letters of recommendation as described above.
-
Personal Statement
-
Step 1 and 2 USMLE scores or equivalent examination results. Step 1 results are required to be considered for an interview. Step 2 results are required to become a licensed trainee in the state of Massachusetts.
International Medical Graduates
Graduates of international medical schools (non-U.S. or Canadian) must apply via the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) and are expected to meet the following requirements to be considered for an interview:
-
A minimum of three letters of recommendation from clinical faculty in the United States
-
USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 scores above the 90th percentile
-
No greater than three years since the time of graduation from medical school
Our institution preferentially sponsors J1 visas. H1-B visas will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Interviews
Interviews for residency training beginning Summer 2026 will all take place virtually on the following dates (2nd Wednesdays in November and December):
-
November 12, 2025
-
December 10, 2025
We do not offer "second looks" after interviews as we put every effort into showing you everything you need to know about our residency program on the day of the interview.
