Veronique VanderHorst, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Neurology, HMS, and a staff physician specializing in Movement Disorders at BIDMC. Dr. VanderHorst is a physician scientist who leads a team that studies neural circuits in the brainstem involved in walking, muscle tone, respiration and arousal. She uses mouse models to study normal circuit function whereas translational efforts involve clinical-pathological studies of post-mortem brainstem from decedents with Alzheimer’s and/or Parkinson’s disease. She has expertise setting up and maintaining collaborations across disciplines. She actively mentors students, residents, fellows and junior faculty, including within the Harvard Catalyst Program.
