Clinical Innovation

The HTEI at BIDMC is at the forefront of clinical innovation in the treatment of complex cardiac arrhythmias through its Ventricular Tachycardia (VT) Center and Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Program. The VT Center brings together a dedicated, multidisciplinary team to deliver timely, safe, and highly individualized care for patients with ventricular arrhythmias, while advancing the field through ongoing clinical investigation. Complementing this effort, the AFib Program offers a comprehensive, patient-centered approach that spans integrated evaluation, holistic management strategies, and advanced treatment options—including ablation, device therapy, and medication management. Together, these programs leverage the full breadth of BIDMC’s clinical expertise, research initiatives, and collaborative care models to provide tailored treatment plans and access to the latest innovations in arrhythmia care.

Ventricular Tachycardia Center

The VT Center is led by dedicated members of the Section of Electrophysiology to coordinate timely, safe, and effective treatment of ventricular tachycardia and other ventricular arrhythmias while driving to advance the field with clinical investigation. The VT Center faculty work to create an individualized treatment plan leveraging a multidisciplinary approach with the innovative and comprehensive resources available at BIDMC. Atrial Fibrillation Program

The Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Program at BIDMC is a comprehensive and patient-centered approach to managing AFib. The program includes:

  • Integrated Clinical Evaluation: The EP service at BIDMC focuses on clinical evaluation and management of AFib, with a dedicated AF clinic and the FRACTAL registry for practice patterns in new-onset AFib.
  • Holistic Management: BIDMC's AFib management includes a partnership with the emergency department to limit unnecessary hospital admissions and a treatment algorithm to guide decisions.
  • Advanced Treatment Options: The program offers advanced treatment options for AFib, including pacemakers, ablation, medication, and defibrillator implants.

Patients can benefit from a range of services, including cardiac monitoring, treatment planning, and support groups. The program's focus on a multidisciplinary approach ensures that patients receive tailored treatment plans and the latest discoveries in medical treatment. Learn more about the AFib Program and Arrhythmia Care here.
